The Joint Outreach Committee (JOC) of Idaho is made up of representatives from Christian Science churches throughout the state. The purpose of the JOC is to share inspiration from the Bible and from Mary Baker Eddy’s book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. Our goal is to inspire, comfort, and share our joy and love of the Bible with everyone who finds our website and social media.
CHRISTIAN SCIENTISTS BELIEVE
Concept of God
Christian Scientists believe in an ever-present, all powerful and all-knowing God who is purely good. This infinite source of wisdom and love is as close to us as the air we breathe and is always guiding, guarding and governing His creation – mankind and the universe. Being Spirit, God is spiritual. God is unchanging Love.
Christ Jesus
Christ Jesus was the most spiritual man to ever walk the earth. He showed by his example of healing, teaching and living the close relationship between God and mankind. Christian Scientists are extremely grateful to Jesus for showing us the way to live a God-centered and purposeful life.
The Bible
This source book is essential to understanding God and our relationship to him. Throughout the pages the history of the Hebrew people with their successes and failures, their inspiration and sorrow, their gratitude and discontent, support us and give us hope as we tackle the challenges of our lives.
Science and Health
The whole title of this book is: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. This textbook, along with The Bible, are ordained as the Pastor of this church. Like a Pastor these books help to guide us on our spiritual journey. Many Christian Scientists study them daily in their quest to discover God’s purpose for each one of us and our spiritual connection with Him. This spiritual understanding is the bedrock for their prayers for their families, their communities and the whole world.

It’s common for people to look to a pastor when they need guidance, comfort, healing, or a deeper sense of purpose. The Christian Science Pastor is available to offer this kind of nurturing and mentoring around the clock. That’s because the worldwide Church of Christ, Scientist has just one universal, permanent Pastor.

Mary Baker Eddy, who discovered and founded Christian Science, wanted her Church’s Pastor to be as pure, constant, and powerful as God’s Word itself. To this end, in 1895 she ordained as Pastor both the Bible and her book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, which opens up the Bible in its application to all human needs. Together, these two books are a mentor, spiritual resource, and timeless guide open to all—a Pastor for the world.

As the universal Pastor for the Church of Christ, Scientist, the Bible and Science and Health embrace church congregations with a message of Christian love, preach the Word with clarity, minister to those needing care in every place and circumstance, and prove their worth through healing transformation.

Because of its timeless spiritual message, the Pastor is a powerful preacher at all Christian Science worship services. On Sundays, a Bible Lesson-Sermon of passages from these books is presented by Readers. Wednesday services include topical readings from the Pastor and time for congregants to share how it has illumined their inseparable relationship with God and brought about healing through prayer.

HISTORY OF CHRISTIAN SCIENCE & MARY BAKER EDDY
Mary Baker Eddy, who discovered and founded Christian Science, defined it as “the law of God, the law of good…” (Rudimental Divine Science). This deeper understanding of God as infinite Love and unchanging goodness leads to prayer that can heal, redeem, and restore anyone.
In 1866, a life-threatening injury compelled Mary Baker Eddy to turn wholeheartedly to God. She opened her Bible to an account of Jesus healing a man quickly and completely. A new sense of God, Spirit, as the only reality flooded her thought, and she was healed instantaneously. But she yearned to know how and why. For the next several years, she continued to search and find in the Bible the underlying laws of God that would form the basis of her teaching and practice of Christian Science.
Since then, many have found that when they better understand their relationship to God through this Science of Christianity, their health is restored and character transformed. And each healing inspires a heartfelt desire to help others know and experience how loved we all are by God.
